I've recently switched to a Mac for my primary work PC, which left me needing to get a Subversion client. While I use Subclipse for access within Eclipse, I also like to have a more generic SVN client available. So I started googling for something and came up with a decent solution.

SCPlugin is a context menu add-on for OSx that works a lot like TortoiseSVN does on Windows. There are a few steps to getting it working, though, that are listed below:

1. Install the non-Fink SVN binaries for SVN, located at http://metissian.com/projects/macosx/subversion/
2. Install the latest SCPlugin binary from http://scplugin.tigris.org/source/browse/scplugin/binaries/
3. Open Sytem Preferences and choose the SCPlugin icon under "Other" at the bottom of the screen and click the "Enable Finder Integration" checkbox. Ignore the button to select the SVN binary and move to the next step.
4. Open the terminal application and copy/paste or type the following (if you used the above binaries, the path should be the same):
   defaults write org.tigris.SCPlugin svn_executable /usr/local/bin/svn
5. Exit the terminal application, press Cmd-Option-Esc, choose Finder from the Force Quit dialogue box, and click Relaunch.
6. Test by either control-click or right-clicking on the desktop (depending on how your system is configured). You should have a new choice at the bottom of the context menu labeled Subversion, and everything should be grayed out except Checkout... and About... Trust me on this, if everything is accessible, you've got a problem and you'll need to go back over the steps.

Once you've done the above, you'll be able to easily checkin/checkout, and update files. The only real issue is that from time to time the icon indicators on your checked-out files don't update after a commit. Doing a cleanup should fix the problem.

I'll be checking out other OSx SVN clients over time and will post my findings as they come up.

Awesome! I've only used svn from eclipse, xcode, and the command line, but this might be better work flow (some times xcode hicups with svn). Perhaps now maybe I'll even start repo-ing documents - Thanks for the tip.

I am excited for SmartSVN (www.smartcvs.com). Once that gets release I think we will be buying copies for here at working and switching from cvs to svn.
